Enrichment

Our young people have the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of activities beyond their core curriculum here at the Deaf Academy.

WOW Wednesdays, held each Wednesday afternoon, give our students opportunities to participate in Enrichment activities. The vast majority of the students participate in these activities apart from the students on partner pathway accreditation.

At present students can take part in football training skills, Tae Kwon Do, arts and craft, and drama with local Paddleboat Theatre group. The students in drama are currently working on the Topsham Road Project in conjunction with local students from ISCA and Southbrook schools, to create a collaboration play with will be performed at the Phoenix Theatre in Exeter.

Post-16 students are encouraged to be independent and choose the enrichment activities that they like; two students currently go to the gym every week, one student is preparing to undertake driving lessons, and other students are participating in the Me, Myself and I sessions on a Tuesday afternoon where they will be undertaking Life Skill activities such as First Aid, Food Hygiene, Cycling Proficiency, cooking on a limited budget, cooking around the world, and even essential skills such as washing and ironing to prepare them for adulthood and living independently.
