Here at the Academy many of our students live in Residence in term-time.
The Academy has a great Deaf Community with evening/weekend social activities helping to develop sign language and communication skills.
With the support of experienced Residential Care Team, our residential young people participate in an independent living skills programme that prepares them to live independently in the future. Young people with input where appropriate, work towards realistic individual goals; from tying their shoelaces to budgeting their finances.
Exeter is a small and attractive city, and the Deaf Academy is well known within it and valued by its residents. It is therefore an excellent environment for Deaf young people to develop their independence as well as excel educationally. There is a great shopping centre with lots of cafes and independent shops, a museum, several theatres, art galleries and cinemas, plus a stunning Cathedral and Quayside and much more on our doorstep!
During their time in Residence our students have the opportunity to get involved in the Student Council and many different activities. We also provide careers support to help students consider their future and plan accordingly.
