Darren Beattie is the registered manager of Atkinson Secure Children’s Home in Exeter - one of six welfare Homes within England and Wales for vulnerable children and young people (10 -17 years) who are a significant risk to themselves or others. He has overall strategic responsibility for ten residents and approximately 75 staff representing care, education and health services. The aim of the provision is to assess individual needs and provide holistic based interventions to address causes of behaviour.
Darren has also worked as a police officer, and for youth offending teams. He joined the Deaf Academy’s board of Governors as a result of his experience and knowledge in residential care with a particular emphasis around safeguarding. He has an extensive and in depth understanding of how to meet the care, education and health needs of children and young people who are placed in a residential setting.
Darren is keen to support the Academy in relation to the challenges faced by Deaf children and young people and staff in a residential setting.
